A Bit of a Result

The total mileage for March's nine outings totalled out at 63. That has made up the monthly requirement of 42mls plus all except one mile of last month's deficit. So I'm pretty much on target again. I'd like to get a bit ahead this coming month.

I had a good trip out today. My son whose warm up speed is faster than my flat out, came along for the outing this morning. He hasn't been out in a boat for a while so just for a change I was able to keep him in sight until about half way up the usual course from New Haw. As a consequence I could see that I'd set a better than usual time up to that point. I kept pressing on up to the turn at Pyrford and was able to keep it up most of the way back, posting good mile times. With about a quarter mile to go I found I was inside 1 : 07 so putting everything into the last part I tried to get to the 5 mile mark in under 1 : 10. I missed it by nine seconds, about the time it takes to find and stop the watch.

The end result was a PB for the five miles at over two minutes faster than my previous best and around four minutes faster than my recent average. So for the moment it seems that the jogging, exercises and longer distances are starting to pay off.
