Marking Time

The first jog of last week over the usual ParkRun course went okay. Very hot and humid I took a slow pace for the first two miles and a short walk for the first quarter mile of the third as I'm still trying to ease the various twangy parts of the body into unaccustomed mobility. Being that this last couple of weeks outings have been the first exercises that I've done since the operation two months ago, I'm still very aware of the loss of fitness I'm experiencing. It's a long time coming and easy to let slip away. At the moment I'm keeping to the grass on the edge of the metalled part of the track to lessen the impact on the shins and the possibly a re-occurrence of the pulled muscle that I experienced just at the end of the last purple patch before the op. Finishing up the last part of the course was fairly painless but still left me breathing heavily and sweating profusely despite the walk.
Times:   mile 1, 9:20.  mile 2, 9:22  mile 3, 10:52

Thursday was scheduled for another visit to the physio to check that bits and pieces of the shoulder are freeing up as they should be. The stretching exercises are working and I've got about 90% mobility back at the moment. I'm not permitted any loading of the Bicep for fear of pulling the stitches until 12 weeks post op, which is still four weeks away. I'm not sure if jogging comes under this which is why I'm being as cautious as I can be not to allow any strain on the cuff muscles. So far there's been no protest from that area but I'm still going to keep it slow and steady until the 12th week. The physio was quite pleased with the progress so far, as I was, and he doesn't require to see me again until after the doc's three month check which is at the beginning of September. At that point, all being well, I can get on with trying to rebuild some sort of strength in the shoulder muscles. Until then it's just 'keep stretching'.

The second jog of the week I'd elected to do without any mid term walks. The weather was cooler and cloudy which made it all rather easier to cope with. To make a morning of it I went straight from the Physio to the park to do a jog around the usual course. It went well and a bit faster than last time without too much protest from the legs, although the pace slowed more than I would have liked in the third mile. Nevertheless, if the jog progresses positively I might try the Richmond's hilly course in a couple of weeks.
Times:   mile 1,  9:03.  mile 2, 9:15.  mile 3,  9:50.
