Do you launch a Kayak with a bottle of Cava?

Oooh look... I've got two followers.  :-)

Mrs D and I returned to the pool today. Only this time it was mid-afternoon instead of the previous after-work rush to get a half hour swim before closing time. I think I can get to like this coming and going as I please lifestyle. After an enforced lay-off of some six weeks I was back to square one with the number of lengths completed though. I had been quite pleased the last time we swam as I was beginning to put a number of lengths together. But today it was back to the old clutching of the side and getting breath after each length.

Since that last visit my weight has soared by nearly a stone, and I'm going to blame that on excesses over Christmas. To my horror it seemed to be leaping up in pounds each day. Since new-year I've managed to get rid of a whole two bloody pounds. If only getting the weight off was as easy as putting it on.

I'm still looking around for a Kayak club in the local area  to inflict myself on to get a bit of initial instruction, but most seem to keep their beginner classes for the spring/summer which is really too late for my purposes.  All in all, I am being forced to the conclusion that the planned little DW excursion is out for this year. Obviously I'm going to have to take the realistic approach and save it for next year. Still, that does give me a whole summer to get my act together and gives a more realistic chance of success. Pity though...

I suppose that the next step is to see Marsport about the boat. At some point this month I have to speak to them about making the thing in the February slot I've booked.  They are expecting me to go down there and 'try out' a few boats to see which one suits me best. There is one major snag here, which is that I can't actually guarantee that I won't fall in in front of them.  I had hoped to get a bit of practice in before then and blagging my way through as if I know what I'm doing. It rather looks as if I'll have to plead injury, (I've got a sore elbow). About the only informed decision I can make at the moment is what colour it's going to be.

Which is of course... Red, White and Blue.
